A man who repeatedly stabbed a sleeping family friend until she died in what was described as a “senseless” attack has been handed a life sentence with a minimum non-parole period of 26 years.

Ernestas Juska, aged 21, entered a guilty plea to murdering Nina Denisova and subsequently sexually abusing her body during the early hours of the morning following a party held at his mother’s house in August 2024.

Juska, who lives in Dartford, Kent, informed police that he had stabbed the 39-year-old woman several times in the face, neck, and chest using a large, blunt kitchen knife.

At Maidstone Crown Court, it was revealed that after the killing, Juska went to a nearby bus stop and requested that a passer-by contact the police because he had just killed someone.

Prosecutor Danny Moore KC informed the court that on the evening in question, Juska—who had taken so much cocaine and alcohol that he vomited—was reprimanded by his mother for being unemployed.

He explained that Juska, who was 20 years old at the time, felt the urge to “lash out” at somebody and selected Ms Denisova, who had retired to sleep in an upstairs bedroom.

The court was told that Ms Denisova, who was portrayed as a “happy and hard-working” individual who had moved to the UK from Lithuania in search of a better life, was roused from sleep by being stabbed in the neck.

“She did not die, and she began to struggle,” Mr Moore continued.

“He put his hands over her mouth. He then stabbed her.”

Juska subsequently told police that he “felt nothing” following the attack.

When delivering the sentence, Judge Mr Justice Dias stated that the “last moments of Nina Denisova’s life were lived in extreme, unexpected and undeserved horror”.

He further remarked that Juska’s prolonged fascination with and consumption of violent pornography had an “extreme impact” on him.

Juska, a Lithuanian national who arrived in the UK at the age of eight, admitted to deliberately killing Ms Denisova and to sexually abusing her body afterwards.

“I’ve done everything, and I will confess,” he said to Kent Police.

Det Sgt Max Gregory stated that Juska had carried out an “act of shocking and senseless brutality, seemingly without reason or any hint of remorse”.

The victim’s brother, Aleksandras, informed the court that Ms Denisova’s death had left a “big hole” and had an “indescribable” impact on the family.

“We can never forgive him for what he’s done,” he said in a statement that was read aloud.

“We will never be able to understand why he did what he did that sad day.”

Juska’s defence counsel, Beth O’Reilly KC, told the court that her client was emotionally frozen, hopeless, and helpless.

She informed the court that he had expressed profound sorrow and recognised that he could not undo his actions, even though she accepted that such remarks might have sounded empty to those present.

His “shame is palpable”, Ms O’Reilly added.
