England defender Harry Maguire is likely to have a closed-door meeting with Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag over the captaincy role.
This comes after reports that the England international’s position as captain of the Red Devils might be threatened next season.
Ten Hag has already stated that he would let his players choose their captain for next season, with Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly leading the race.
The defender is expected to conduct crucial talks with the Dutchman about his status, according to the Mirror.
When asked if he wants Maguire to be his captain next season during his first press conference as Manchester United manager, Ten Hag replied: “Next season is a different season, he is a great player.
“He already achieved a lot and also [made a] contribution to Man Utd. I am looking forward to working with him.”
