Restrictions on Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts have been lifted by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, following days after Trump publicly criticised Zuckerberg.
As Trump gets closer to winning the GOP nomination at the forthcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Meta announced on Friday, July 12, that all restrictions had been removed off his official Facebook and Instagram sites.
“In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis,” Meta stated.
Following the Capitol uprising in 2021, Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
When Meta restored his accounts last year, they stated they would keep an eye out for any infractions that would result in more suspensions.
Only a few days after Trump attacked Zuckerberg on Truth Social, the website he founded following his ban from using conventional social media, the limitations have now been completely lifted.
Trump posted, “All I can say is that if I’m elected President, we will pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!”
Although Meta has said that both Trump and President Biden will be held to the same criteria as other users, including guidelines to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence, it is unclear if Trump’s post had any impact on Meta’s decision.
It’s unclear if Trump will stick to Truth Social or start posting more frequently on Facebook and Instagram.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
