In my last article, it was stated that the responsibility of nurturing the image and likeness of God in a child lies more on mothers, because of our responsibilities in the home. So, what is the image and likeness of God we are expected to nurture?
The Image and Likeness of God in man are: 1)Soul and Spirit: A man is made up of body, soul, and spirit. The material part of man is the body, while the immaterial part of man is the soul and spirit.
Gen 2:7 says ‘ Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into His nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Therefore, it is our responsibility to let our children know that they have the soul and spirit of God in them. We must teach them that their soul must be given much attention the way they do their body. We are to teach them to constantly nurture and feed their soul through prayers and studies of the words of God.
As a result, we must teach our children that they possess the soul and spirit of God. We have a responsibility to impart the knowledge in them that their souls require the same level of care as their bodies. We must instill in them the need to regularly study God’s word and pray to feed and nourish their soul.
