Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Popular Nollywood Actor Decamp From APC

The All Progressive Congress has seen the resignation of one of its members, Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo.

The movie star announced his resignation on Monday, July 11, 2022, via a press release that was shared on his official Instagram page.

He justified his exit from the ruling party as the result of the choice to run a Muslim-Muslim as their presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

The statement partly reads, “If Muslims could voluntarily vote for southern presidents it is then a fallacy to insinuate that they cannot accept a northern Christian Vice President.

“This will permanently destroy the political viability of Northern Christians in Nigeria if allowed to stand. This is in the addition to the failure to protect lives and properties of Nigerians which should be their primary responsibility. The country is also in shatters.”

For the sake of equity, justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, the actor claimed he withdrew from the organization.

It should be recalled that Shettima, a Muslim and a former two-term governor of Borno, was named as Sen. Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the APC’s 2023 presidential candidacy in Daura, Katsina State.
