Napoli In Talks With Kevin De Bruyne To Sign The Belgian As Free Agent

Published on

Representatives of Kevin De Bruyne have reportedly engaged in preliminary discussions with Serie A frontrunners Napoli regarding a potential free transfer this summer.

De Bruyne will become a free agent when his contract with Manchester City concludes at the season’s end.

The 33-year-old disclosed last month that Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, and CEO, Ferran Soriano, informed him that his contract would not be extended.

The Times reports that Napoli have already reached out to De Bruyne’s representatives to discuss a possible move in the summer.

Napoli are guaranteed a spot in next season’s Champions League and are on the verge of securing the Serie A championship.

Napoli are reportedly optimistic that De Bruyne’s camaraderie with fellow Belgian star Romelu Lukaku could sway the midfielder to sign with the club.

De Bruyne has voiced his ambition to keep playing at the elite level and will evaluate what is best for his family.

‘Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing but I understand that clubs have to make decisions,’ De Bruyne said last month.

‘I’m open for anything (next) because I have to look at the whole picture. I’m looking at sporting reasons, family and everything together and what makes the most sense for me and my family.

‘I still feel like I can play at a good level, but after I’ll have to make a decision once I really know a little bit more.’

Sky Sports reports that Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs to have inquired about a potential transfer. He has also been linked with a move to the MLS, with Chicago Fire holding the priority option for the player.

De Bruyne has featured in 36 matches across all competitions for Manchester City, contributing six goals and eight assists.

During his tenure at Manchester City, De Bruyne has secured six Premier League titles, the Champions League, and five League Cups.

He could depart the club with a third FA Cup, as Manchester City are set to face Crystal Palace in the final on May 17.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
