On January 20, 2025, Nathaniel Bassey, a well-known Nigerian pastor and gospel preacher, has been invited to serve as a minister at the U.S. Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.
Prior to the swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance, Reverend Merrie Turner will host the non-political, faith-based gathering. Among the esteemed speakers at the prayer breakfast, which will take place at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom, are Pastor Mario Bramnick and Dr. Alveda King.
“Let’s raise a sound in America,” Bassey wrote on Instagram to confirm his involvement.
Bassey is also well-known for starting an internet worship movement called the Hallelujah Challenge. In 2024, Albany, New York’s mayor paid tribute to him by declaring October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day.”
The event emphasizes prayer and worship as a spiritual support for the U.S. government and presidency.
