Senator Kashim Shettima, the vice presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned Nigerians to prepare for a challenging year in 2023.
The former Borno State governor said this on Thursday in Abuja at an APC Professionals Forum event with the topic “Dissecting the Asiwaju Manifesto.”
He forewarned that the nation would face some difficulties in the coming months and years.
The vice presidential candidate claimed that despite being an unrelenting optimist, he is also a realist and that the country cannot protect itself from the issues in Ukraine and the world at large.
He said, “We’re going to go through some rough waters in the coming months and years. This is why leadership is very crucial. 2023 will be a watershed election in the history of this country.”
Kashim Shettima added: “What are the options available? Our political space is filled with a lot of very careful snails. We have to provoke conversation without descending so low to engage in malicious concoctions or [casting] dubious aspersions on personalities.”
The former Borno State governor also took a shot at Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, saying: “Peter “Gringori” Obi is my friend but “Gringori” has absolutely nothing to offer apart from dubious statistics. So [in] the choice before us, there is a difference between daylight and darkness.”
