Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Mr. Laolu Akande, has indicated that there is no reason to suppose he has quit politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akande clarified this during an interview with media in Lagos on Sunday.
Osinbajo, who has kept a low political profile since leaving office in 2023, has fueled rumors about his potential departure from the APC and active politics. His absence from numerous political rallies prompted some observers to question his continued support for the ruling party.
The former Vice President ran in the APC presidential primary in 2022 but lost to President Bola Tinubu. He previously served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.
Some political experts attribute Osinbajo’s decreased visibility in the political landscape to his primary defeat, while others feel he has moved focus as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
In response to these rumors, Akande stated that Osinbajo never told him he had left politics and affirmed that he is still a member of the APC. He stated that the former Vice President would attend any APC event necessitating his attendance.
“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC; he is still a member of APC. If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t know about him leaving the party,” Akande said.
