Nollywood Actor, Olumide Oworu Reveals Why He Joined Politics

Olumide Oworu, a well-known actor from Nigeria, has discussed his motivations for seeking for office in the 2023 elections. He claims that he made the decision to join the movement to transform the nation.

Remember how Olumide Oworu declared in February 2023 that he will run for the Lagos Assembly’s Surulere Constituency 1 seat on behalf of the Labour Party (LP)? However, once his name was not on the electoral body’s result sheet, the thespian’s candidacy became a topic of discussion on social media.

Desmond Elliot, a senior colleague of Olumide, ran on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and ultimately won the constituency seat.

Olumide Oworu voiced his displeasure with the entertainment media in an interview with Seun Olekutiyi on the Nollywood On Radio program.

He said, “We just need to be a part of our affairs. I want to live in Nigeria, I want to raise my family in a Nigeria that is good, that is a land of opportunities. I know how things were when I was growing up and it is just sad to see that we are just on a downward spiral.

“Almost nothing minus the entertainment industry, sports, and a few other industries have anything positive. Everything else just seems to be nosediving and I actually want to be a part of the people that are going to make some form of change in the society.”
