“Osimhen Would Have Helped” – Sacked Napoli Coach

Published on

Victor Osimhen Nigerian striker’s impact on the Napoli club, according to former coach Walter Mazzarri, may have saved his job.

On Monday, February 19, Mazzarri was let go, only three months after succeeding Rudi Garcia.

The 62-year-old Mazzarri took over as the Gli Azzurri manager in November following a dismal season debut under Garcia. Osimhen was dealing with a hamstring issue when he arrived.

Due to his injury and absence from the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Osimhen was unable to provide the manager with his full potential and only appeared in eight games under Mazzarri.

The former Cagliari coach said he wishes Osimhen had faced Barcelona in Napoli’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 match to buy him some time in a report that was published by La Repubblica.

According to CN24’s disclosure of statements from Mazzarri, “I was hoping to manage against Barcelona with Victor Osimhen on the pitch.” Mazzarri said to La Repubblica.

Last season, Osimhen led Napoli to their first Scudetto charge in thirty-three years, with 25 goals and the Serie Golden Boot.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
