David Adeleke, commonly known as Davido, a popular Nigerian artist, has declared that the upcoming governorship race in Osun State will not be like the one in Ekiti State.
The election in Ekiti was held over the weekend, and there were claims of vote-buying in the state.
Some parties, notably the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) governorship candidate, Segun Oni, claimed that some citizens in Ado-Ekiti, Oye, were being paid to vote for certain political parties.
The Action Democratic Party’s (ADP) candidate, Kemi Elebute-Halle, also claimed that other political parties are bribing voters with money.
Residents of Osun State, Davido said on Twitter, will lawfully fight any attempt to defraud them of their votes.
“Osun is not Ekiti as our people will lawfully resist all attempts to rob them as was done in 2018. July 16 we shall rejoice!
“See you all soon but for now, back to tour.”
On March 22, 2018, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the Osun election.
However, Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, challenged the declaration, claiming he was cheated out of his mandate.
