A young man, Kinghope Ubi, was arrested by security personnel at the University of Calabar, UNICAL, for threatening students with a faux gun and seizing their phones.

On Thursday, March 3, he was apprehended at the institution’s ICT Centre after directing his two accomplices to point the fake gun at Akomaye Ephraim and take his Tecno Camon 16 Premium phone worth N108,000.

During questioning, he revealed that he came to the campus to see his girlfriend and then planned to seize some students’ phones.

The arrested fellow, who is not a UNICAL student, said the fake gun was given to him by a friend to frighten students and obtain their phones.

During his arrest, a passport of him in the Nigerian Customs Service uniform was discovered with him. He revealed to reporters that he was fired from the Customs Service in 2021. The suspect was turned over to the Police Department’s Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad.
