Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have apprehended two individuals for posing as officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) and deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspects, Nuche Joseph, aged 34, and Lawal Rofiat, aged 29, were detained by RRS operatives on April 29, 2025, while pretending to be officials of the Lagos State Ambulances Service (LASAMBUS).
The suspects, affiliated with BrainGrace Ambulance service, have been impersonating the Lagos Ambulance Service and extorting accident victims, charging them various amounts for pre-hospital care, which is provided free of charge to accident victims in the state.
The deceptive practices of the suspects came to light on social media through the relatives of an accident victim who was coerced by BrainGrace Ambulance into paying N150,000:00 for pre-hospital care, only for the victim to pass away before reaching the hospital.
The deceased’s relatives, upon discovering that the service was meant to be provided free of charge by the Lagos State Government, felt cheated. They used social media to highlight BrainGrace Ambulance’s actions, mistakenly alleging that they were defrauded by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
The two suspects have provided confessional statements to the police and have been brought before a court.
Police detain two for operating fraudulent ambulance service in Lagos.
