Ajoke and Jide Akinropo, a couple in their 30s and 40s, were remanded in custody on Monday by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The two were taken to the Abolongo Correctional Complex in Oyo town after being accused of killing Olapade, a 45-year-old man.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the husband and wife were accused of murder and conspiracy by the police.
Mr. E. A. Idowu, Chief Magistrate, rejected their argument and continued the case till May 30 for mention. The Chief Magistrate, Mr E. A. Idowu, did not take their plea and adjourned the matter until May 30, for mention.
The Magistrate ordered that they be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecution counsel, Insp Femi Oluwadare, informed the court that the couple allegedly conspired to commit the offense.
The police officer said on April 25, at about 7 a.m. in the Zion Oje area of Ibadan, the couple beat Olapade to death.
The offense violated Section 316 and was punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
