Two individuals, Arigun David, aged 21, and Michael, aged 34, both friends, tragically lost their lives during a confrontation with herdsmen in the Agwan Doka area of Mararaba, located in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed this incident to journalists, stating that the deceased were fatally attacked with a machete following a heated dispute.
According to SP Nansel, the Divisional Police Officer overseeing the area received a distress call around 1 p.m. on Sunday, reporting that cattle owned by the herdsman, who is currently at large, were grazing in the area and had consumed flowers planted by Mr. David.
He explained that upon discovering the damage, the deceased confronted the herdsman, which led to a heated argument between the two parties.
“Consequently, the herder matched Mr. David, and he d!ed on the spot,” he stated.
SP Nansel further elaborated that Michael, a friend of Mr. David from Phase Four, attempted to intervene in the altercation but was also attacked with a machete by the same herdsman.
He noted that Michael suffered severe injuries and was immediately taken to Mararaba Medical Centre for medical attention, but a doctor pronounced him dead upon arrival.
He confirmed that Michael’s body has been placed in the same hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
Nansel also mentioned that the state Commissioner of Police has directed a manhunt for the individual responsible for this act to ensure they face prosecution.
