Redeemers School Shut Down Over Death Of 5-Year-Old

The Redeemers Nursery and Primary School in Ogba has been shut down by the Lagos State Government.

The sanction came after Chidera Eze, a five-year-old student, passed away during a swimming session.

Chidera apparently fell into the pool while he and his friends were nearby playing.

The incident happened in May, at the Ivory Health Club on Ogundana Street, Ikeja.

Anthony Eze, the father of the deceased, has attributed his child’s death to the carelessness of the school’s staff.

The Redeemers School will continue to be closed while an administrative investigation is being conducted, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday.

According to a statement by the commissioner for education, Folashade Adefisayo, investigations of the school’s policies and officials’ conduct with regard to safety standards would be conducted.

According to Folashade, an initial investigation by the Office of Education Quality Assurance revealed that the school has not finished its registration and is, therefore, not certified.

Parents and guardians were advised by the commissioner to take note of the closure and wait for the investigations to be concluded.
