Cristiano Ronaldo, a Manchester United legend, has reacted to Wayne Rooney suggestion that Manchester United should go on without the Portuguese international at the end of the season.
After United’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Saturday, Rooney dropped some savage comments on the forward on Monday.
Rooney was asked if Ronaldo’s return to the Premier League has benefited United, and he responded, “You’d have to say no.”
Rooney stated on Sky Sports that Ronaldo, along with United’s midfielder, Paul Pogba, should go this summer, adding that his comeback has not helped the club and that the all-time highest goal scorer should be displaced with ‘younger, hungry players.’
He said, “He’s scored, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League games early on in the season. He scored the hat-trick against Tottenham.
“But I think if you’re looking to the future of the club, you have to go with younger, hungry players to do their best to lift Manchester United over these next two or three years.
“And obviously Cristiano is getting on a bit. He certainly isn’t the player he was when he was in his 20s. And that happens, that’s football. He’s a goal threat but I think the rest of the game they need more, they need young, hungry players.
“I think they’ve got good young players. I think Sancho will be better next year, I think Marcus will be better next year.”
On his Instagram page, Rooney afterward uploaded a photo of himself on the show with Jamie Carragher and broadcaster David Jones.
Ronaldo used the opportunity to respond to Rooney’s criticism of the show by writing: ‘Two Jealous’ in the comment section.
