The former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha’s apartment in Abuja, was raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Senator was arrested.
This comes following accounts of numerous gunshots within the Senator’s compound.
The former governor is being probed for allegedly stealing state cash while in office by the anti-graft agency.
The senator was accused by the EFCC in January, of conspiring with others to steal N2.9 billion from government coffers, as the agency filed the accusations in Abuja’s Federal High Court.
Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited are among the defendants, in addition to Okorocha.
The allegations were brought around the same time that Okorocha announced his ambition to run for president in 2023.
The EFCC attempted to arrest Okorocha at his Maitama home on Tuesday morning but was denied entry. In a video, the operatives can be seen parading around the former governor’s home.
They demanded that Okorocha, who is running for president on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), either submit to arrest or accept a long-standing invitation to their office.
The senator, who was inside the building, made a video, questioning the EFCC’s mission in his house as he accuses them of not having an arrest warrant.
After hours of laying siege to the premises, the anti-graft agency snatched up Okorocha on Tuesday evening and took him away.
The EFCC had also demanded that journalists vacate the premises while ejecting everyone within the residence with force.
However, a recent video shows how the EFCC had gained access into the senator’s house. Rochas Okorocha has gone live on Instagram, showing how the EFCC operatives were breaking into his house through the roof.
