The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Worldwide, OYC, has praised the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for their decision to lift the sit-in order on Monday.
Last Monday, the OYC petitioned the IPOB to defer the ruling so that students might take the current NECO exam.
In an interview, Okwu pleaded that “the decision be reconsidered in the interest of our people. May we not forget that most of the people we are fighting for are artisans who feed on their daily incomes and asking them to remain at home after the weekend break would impose a serious economic burden on them.
“Besides, the National Examination Council, NECO, examination is also on-going and our youths, the future of tomorrow are taking part in that exam. Would we now say they should miss their examinations on such days? Our humble appeal is that we seek a political solution to this matter. We will not fail to thank the members of the IPOB for maintaining peace and resisting the temptation to protest, amid provocation.”
Kanunta Kanu, the younger brother of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, said on Sunday that the order had been suspended to allow students to take the exam.
In a brief statement, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, President-General of the OYC, praised the Biafra group for listening and being considerate.
“We want to sincerely thank the IPOB family for suspending the sit-at-home order,” the OYC said.

“The Ohanaeze Youths Worldwide are happy that they heeded the voice of reason considering the ongoing NECO examination.
“Many of our young ones are sitting for this examination to cure the defect they have in mathematics and we can’t worsen their woes by not allowing them to sit for the examination.
“Like we said before, we need a political solution to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal, he is a political prisoner, and for that reason, we will not stop appealing to South-East leaders to step up action and ensure his unconditional release,” the OYC claimed.
However, there appears to be a schism within the IPOB family, as Comrade Emma Powerful, the group’s spokesman, has stated that Kalunta Kanu is not allowed to speak for IPOB on the matter.
