Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia stunned favorite Sha’Carri Richardson on Saturday to win the gold medal in the Olympic women’s 100 meters, making history and winning the Caribbean country’s first-ever medal at the Games.
Before Saturday’s final, Alfred had never placed on the podium at a major outdoor competition. However, she put up an incredible race to win in 10.72 seconds, followed by American Richardson in second place with 10.87 seconds and fellow countrywoman Melissa Jefferson in third place with 10.92 seconds.
Well done! Your hard work has paid off. Congratulations on your success!
