The University of Abuja announced on Monday that two lecturers had been sacked for alleged s*xual harassment.
Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na-Allah, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, stated this in an interview with NAN in New York, United States of America.
He claimed that the institution had implemented a s*x abuse policy on campus, stating that the policy had been made public.
Na-Allah, who was in the United States for a two-day meeting with the University of Abuja Alumni Association, USA chapter, to seek support for the university, said that female students must be protected.
He stated that the university is committed to high moral standards and that any form of harassment by its staff against students will not be tolerated.
He said, “I have dismissed two professors since I became the vice-chancellor. It tells you how we are serious about the issue of s*xual harassment.
“We are collaborating with some Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, to ensure that it is not only UNIABUJA that is addressing this issue, but we have a strong partnership.
“We cannot allow the lives of our students to be destroyed, most of the abuses destroy the lives and destinies of their victims.”
According to the VC, the institution is currently investigating the behaviour of teachers who are known for assaulting female students.
