Grammy-winning musician Damini Ogulu, better known by his stage name as Burna Boy, has revealed the fascinating backstory behind his persona.
During a recent interview with tennis great Roger Federer, Burna Boy disclosed that his name came from his early passion for superheroes and comic books.
Burna Boy described how he drew superheroes like Spider-Man and Superman for hours as a child and made up his own characters.
He said: “I used to draw superheroes when I was younger. I used to do the comic drawing of them. That’s how I got the name Burna Boy ’cause I wanted to be a character in the comic book.”
Burna Boy is one of the most well-known Afrobeats musicians in the world, well-known for songs like “Last Last” and “Rollercoaster.”
He has received multiple accolades for his music that cut across national boundaries, including the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album.
