Alexis Avila, 18, was seen arriving at the dumpster on North Thorpe Street in Hobbs at around 2 p.m. Friday, pulling a black garbage bag from the car and throwing it into the container, KOB reported.
Six hours later, three men were seen searching through the dumpster, removing the bag, looking inside, and looking for the child.
The outlet reported that the woman quickly wraps up the newborn and carries the baby to a truck as a man called the authorities.
“On arrival, officers provided assistance to the newborn and the child was taken to a local hospital by Hobbs EMS. The child was later taken to Lubbock Hospital for further pediatric treatment,” police said in a statement.
The child is said to be in a stable condition. It’s indeed a miracle that the child didn’t suffocate in the bag, which looked to be knotted at the top.
Avila has been charged with attempted murder and was due to appear in Lee County District Court on Monday. Rig Outfitters & Home store owner Joe Imbriael said police asked him to look at his security camera footage on Friday night.
“Something wasn’t right. I saw the officers’ faces and they didn’t look right. They really didn’t,” Imbriel told KOB.
“I said, ‘What are we looking for?’ And she goes, ‘We’re looking for someone who put a black garbage bag in your trash can.’ I turned, I said, ‘Please don’t tell me it was a baby,’” said Imbriael.
“I was shocked to see this,” he said. “I cannot sleep at night knowing that this child was thrown in the dustbin like this. I’m sorry, but who does this? He is evil. I don’t have words for it.”
This is just unbelievable and pure wickedness! I hope the lady gets the punishment she so deserves.
