His Eminence, Samuel Kanu-Uche, Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, who was kidnapped by hoodlums in Abia State, has stated that the church paid N100 million to facilitate his release.

During an interview on Tuesday in Lagos, the cleric told a PUNCH correspondent that his kidnappers tortured him.

He claimed that the group threatened to kill him if the N100 million was not provided.

AgnesIsika blog reported that Kanu-Uche was kidnapped on Sunday along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State’s Umunneochi Local Government Area.

His chaplain, Very Rev. Abidemi Shittu, and the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, were also kidnapped with him.

They were, however, released on Monday, May 30.
