At the end of Luke’s “Woes” section, Jesus appears threatening to scribes and Pharisees, as shown by their reaction. Their hostile plans hint at his death, like the prophets. Jesus urges us to live authentically, balancing outer actions and inner life. In v.52, he warns about those who block others from accessing knowledge and Jesus. We might unwittingly hinder others from coming to Jesus through our actions.
Jesus’ messages can be uncomfortable, sometimes calling us to change. It’s easier to rely on external rituals, but that only makes us half alive. We are imperfect sinners in a hurting world full of pain, fear, and isolation. Our role is to share love, hope, joy, and peace, revealing God’s love and justice. We must break down barriers of hate, support each other, and proclaim God’s salvation with joy. As the psalm says, “The Lord has made his salvation known… sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands.” Alleluia!
