Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole, the traditional ruler of Onibuku in Ogun State’s Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, was killed by a truck.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the monarch was believed to be riding a tricycle known as Keke Napep when a liquor-laden truck rolled over the tricycle along the Ota-Idiroko expressway near Winners Chapel.

The Oba was claimed to have died on the scene when a lorry with the registration number EPE 252 XF crushed him while attempting to alight from the tricycle.

Florence Okpe, the spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the event.

Okpe, on the other hand, stated that she had yet to be properly informed by the FRSC at Ota Unit.

The monarch’s remains have been placed at the General Hospital in Ota, while police officials have taken the vehicle off the road.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, acknowledged the occurrence as well.

Akinbiyi stated that his officer had been briefed on the deadly tragedy.

“Yes, it is true. There was an accident in the area today and it recorded a casualty,” he said.

“Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserates with the Kabiyesi’s family and entire inhabitants of the community,” he added.

A first-class Oba in Ogun West, who confirmed the occurrence to reporters, expressed regret at the monarch’s decision to commute by tricycle rather than a personal car.

There are rumours that Oba Bankole parked his automobile owing to the increase in the price of gasoline at the pump.
