The University of Calabar has dismissed a 100-level student, Chukwuemeka Victory, due to alleged participation in phone theft.
The student in question hails from the Public Health department.
The institution made this known through a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, on Monday, May 19, 2025.
As per the statement, the expulsion follows an exhaustive probe by the Senate Students Disciplinary Committee, which determined the student’s guilt in a phone theft incident.
“The Vice Chancellor has received the report of the Senate Students Disciplinary Committee, which investigated an alleged case of Phone Theft during the 2023/2024 Academic Session,” it reads.
“Senate has approved the recommendation of the SSDC that you be expelled from the University for phone theft.”
The letter also instructed key university officials, including the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, the Head of Department of Medicine and Surgery, and the Chief Security Officer, to implement the expulsion immediately.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, along with the university management, reaffirmed their strict policy against misconduct and emphasized their dedication to maintaining discipline and integrity within the academic community.
