US President-Elect, Donald Trump Sentenced To Unconditional Discharge In Hush-Money Case

Published on

Former US President Donald Trump, who is currently the president-elect, has been given an unconditional release term.

Despite being found guilty of 34 felony charges of fabricating business documents in May last year, the new U.S. president will not be subject to any penalties, including jail time or fines, according to the ruling handed down by Justice Juan Merchan on Friday.

The legal and political ramifications of the case, which revolved around claims of hush-money payments, have garnered a lot of attention. Before today’s hearing, the sentencing process had been postponed several times.

“This court has determined that the only lawful sentence that permits entry of judgment or conviction without encroaching on the highest office in the land is an unconditional discharge,” Justice Merchan stated during the proceedings.

President-elect Trump, who appeared virtually from Florida, maintained his innocence, delivering a brief statement in which he declared, “I am totally innocent.”
