Hassana Yohanna, a middle-aged woman, was hauled before an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, on Thursday by a man named Jibrin Sawuta for reportedly calling him impotent.

Yohanna was docked on three counts of intentional insult, defamation, and criminal intimidation.

The offense runs contrary to sections 312, 371, and 376 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

Sawuta said in a direct criminal complaint presented to the court that he was having a conversation with friends in the palace of the village chief of Fadan Kagoma when he learned that his brother had been taken into custody by the police.

He claimed that as soon as he arrived at the station, the defendant suddenly materialized and began verbally abusing him, calling him impotent and the father of no children.

He said after insulting him, the defendant inexplicably rushed at him.

When the charge was read to the defendant, she pleaded not guilty.

She then prayed the court to grant her bail, to which the defendant objected.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, George Gwani granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30,000 and one surety who must be a district head within the jurisdiction of the court.

Gwani adjourned the matter until June 19 to enable the complainant present witnesses to prove his case.
