A woman has been detained by Delhi Police for allegedly murdering her husband due to his inability to sexually satisfy her, according to Indian authorities.

The police reported that on Sunday, July 20, at around 4:15 pm, Nihal Vihar Police Station received a call from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital stating that a woman named Farzana Khan had brought her husband, Mohammad Shahid, to the facility with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The couple, according to police, originated from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the woman claimed that her husband had taken his own life by stabbing himself.

Shahid’s brother, who had accompanied the couple to the hospital, reportedly informed police that Farzana stated Shahid committed suicide due to debts accumulated from gambling.

However, the post-mortem report indicated that the injuries could not have been self-inflicted, as the stab wounds suggested an attack from the front.

“The wife told us he stabbed himself, as he was under stress due to gambling losses,” said a senior officer.

But the postmortem examination, conducted on Monday, July 21, pointed to homicide.

“The doctors informed us that the wounds were inconsistent with suicide. One of them was fatal and could not have been self-inflicted,” the officer added.

Following this, the police filed a murder case and escalated their investigation. During questioning and a forensic analysis of her mobile phone, investigators uncovered the woman’s internet search history, which included searches about “deleting chat histories, using poisonous substances like aluminium phosphide” (commonly known as salphos), and its deadly effects.

When confronted with this evidence, the woman admitted to the crime. She revealed to police that she was dissatisfied with her sexual relationship with her husband and decided to kill him.

“She said she was unhappy in the marriage — both with their physical relationship and with the financial strain caused by his gambling. She also admitted to having an affair with her husband’s cousin, who lives in Bareilly,” the officer said.

She allegedly stabbed Shahid three times in the chest and then drove him to the hospital herself, concocting a suicide narrative to deceive the police.

Police are now examining her communications to determine who she was messaging, which prompted her to research methods for erasing digital evidence.

The murder weapon, a knife, has been recovered.

Farzana was arrested on Tuesday, July 22. She remains in police custody as authorities work to establish the full motive behind the crime.
