Zik FM Umuahia Loses Head of Station, Ozioma Onwuka-Okereke

The Board, Management, and Staff of Zik FM 96.3 Radio, Umuahia have announced the passing of their Head of Station, Comrade Ozioma Onwuka-Okereke.

Onwuka-Okereke, a veteran journalist and broadcaster of exceptional repute died on Wednesday August 27, 2025.

This was disclosed in a release endorsed by Isaac Okorafor, the Chairman/CEO of Zik FM 96.3, Umuahia.

The release said the deceased was ‘not only a leader but also a pillar of strength, whose professionalism, mentorship, and motherly guidance shaped the culture of excellence in Zik FM.’

“She brought vibrancy, discipline, and warmth into the newsroom and studios, ensuring that our station lived up to its mandate of informing, educating, and entertaining the public with credibility,” the release said.

“Her illustrious career spanned decades of outstanding service to the journalism profession.

“She held various positions in the NUJ and NAWOJ where she championed the rights and welfare of journalists, especially women in the media. Her legacy is etched in the lives she touched, the voices she nurtured, and the integrity she upheld.”

It further noted that her sudden departure has created a vacuum that will be very difficult to fill, both in our station and in the wider media landscape.

” We, at Zik FM, will remember her as a mentor, leader, and strong family member.

“We extend our deep condolences to her young children, family, colleagues in NUJ and NAWOJ, and the wider journalism confraternity. May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her memories continue to inspire us,” the release concluded.
