2023 Election: Peter Obi’s Northern Running Mate Revealed

Published on

The Labour Party, LP, will introduce Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as Mr Peter Obi’s vice-presidential running mate for the 2023 elections on Friday.

Senator Baba-Ahmed, who is in his forties, is the owner of Baze University in Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University in Kano.

It was originally planned for the LP’s presidential candidate to introduce the vice-presidential candidate on Thursday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The ceremony, according to Barrister Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, could not take place as scheduled because the presidential candidate, who had travelled to Maiduguri and was scheduled to return to Abuja on Thursday afternoon, had his flight cancelled.

The revelation of Mr Obi’s running mate was rescheduled until Friday, July 8 at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, according to an announcement made by Abure.

This comes just as Doyin Kupe, the placeholder for the Labour Party’s VP slot, stepped down in expectation of the announcement of Peter Obi’s running mate.

Doyin Kupe wrote on his Twitter page, “This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC. A replacement will be announced by d national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP.”
