Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has been declared the winner of the Labour Party’s presidential primaries which took place on Monday 30th of May.
This comes after Professor Pat Utomi, a presidential candidate for the Labour Party, stepped aside in favour of Peter Obi.
At the party’s presidential primary in Asaba, Delta State, Utomi stepped down for Obi.
The former governor of Anambra State had recently joined the Labour Party.
Obi joined the LP after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party, despite being a presidential candidate for the party.
Obi stated that he resigned because he believes in building a nation of producers rather than consumers.
Obi said, “I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family.”
