Bus Crash Kills Ten Returning From Burial

Published on

In southern Kenya, a bus carrying at least 10 passengers overturned after leaving the road and rolling multiple times. The travelers were returning to Mombasa, a coastal city, after attending a funeral on Saturday night in the Taita Taveta County community of Mwatate.

According to Mwatate Police Chief Morris Okul, the bus driver was alive and being treated in a hospital in severe condition.

There were 34 passengers on board, excluding children, according to the survivors, Mr. Okul added.

The incident took place in a hilly location that is recognized as an accident hotspot. In contrast to Mr. Okul’s claim that the bus brakes failed, Japhet Koome, the Inspector General of Police, suggested that the driver may have been coasting in neutral when he lost control.

“There’s a tendency of long-distance drivers freewheeling to save on fuel,” he said.

The mourners were returning late in the evening after traveling more than 150 kilometers (90 miles) to attend the burial.

Hhmmm…what a sad turn of event. May their souls rest in peace, Amen.

More details later.
