Graeme Souness, a Liverpool legend, has accused Manchester United of unfairly handling their captain, Harry Maguire.
Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has preferred the partnering of his new signing, Lisandro Martinez with Raphael Varane as the centre-backs against Liverpool and Southampton, leaving the England international dropped on the bench.
Souness believes Maguire has been treated unfairly, especially given that his £80 million move from Leicester in 2019 set a world record for the position.
He said, “I think he’s been treated unfairly. I quite like Maguire and I think there’s more to come from him.
“I think there was some momentum gathered against him that was quite unfair.
“He was the most expensive defender in the world to straight away he was targeted, so his first mistake ‘the most expensive defender in the world shouldn’t make this mistake’.”
