An Islamic marriage between Toyin Ajibola and Bashirat Mohammed was dissolved by an Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, on the basis of insufficient funds on Wednesday, September 25.
During the verdict, Hammad Ajumonbi, the presiding judge, stated that although Mr. Ajibola loved his wife, she needed to move on and not be abandoned.
For this reason, he ended the marriage and gave the wife custody of the three children.
In addition, the woman was mandated by the court to follow the three-month iddah (waiting) time before to being married again.
To the best of his ability, Judge Ajumonbi directed Mr. Ajibola to be in charge of the children’s food.
“He should have unrestricted access to the children and the mother should always make the children available any time their father requested,” the judge said.
Ms Mohammed had already applied for divorce, claiming she was tired of the marriage owing to a lack of funds and her husband’s recklessness.
“I want the court to grant me divorce so I can have rest of mind,” she said.
Despite his financial limitations, the husband informed the court he still had feelings for his wife.
“I have been trying hard to get money to feed my family, but couldn’t.
“It is so painful that I can’t get money to visit her and the children when they left home,” he said.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
