The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has declared that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) is set to formally recommence its activities on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following several weeks of halt due to vital upkeep and security inspections.
In a release made public on Sunday, October 26, by Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, the organization explained that the brief pause was required to perform important fixes, inspections of systems, and servicing on the rails as well as the trains, with the goal of boosting safety for travelers, dependability, and ease.
“The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the track and rolling stock to ensure the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers,” the statement said.
The NRC verified that reservations through the internet will become available again at 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, which is two days prior to the restart of services. Travelers have the option to book seats using the authorized website, https://nrc-fane.ng, or directly at specified train stations.
Upon the restart of operations, the train is going to run using seven carriages, consisting of six in standard class and one in business class. The updated schedule, which is going to include provisional limits on speed (TSR) in order to guarantee careful oversight for safety, is additionally going to be made public on Monday.
“The corporation sincerely apologises to its esteemed passengers and stakeholders for the inconveniences experienced during the period of suspension and appreciates their patience and understanding,” Unyimadu added.
The Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reiterated the organization’s dedication to providing rail services that are safe, effective, and trustworthy along the Warri–Itakpe route, promising travelers that the upgrades implemented are going to improve the complete journey for them.
The Warri–Itakpe railway, among Nigeria’s primary routes between cities, links the states of Delta, Edo, and Kogi and functions as an important connection for transportation of people and freight from the South-South area to the North-Central area.
