The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a national from China linked to the latest incident involving an improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated within a shop selling CCTV cameras situated on Kodesho Street in Ikeja.

Two individuals perished while five additional people sustained injuries in the explosion that took place on April 11, 2025.

As reported by security expert Zagazola Makama, investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba apprehended the individual, named Joe Gu, around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at his home located at No. A11, Bila Vista, Banana Island, Ikoyi.

“The arrest followed ongoing discreet investigations into the explosion incident, during which the complainant strongly suspected the Chinese national as the possible mastermind of the act,” the sources said.

Initial inquiries disclosed that the suspect previously engaged in a business partnership with the complainant, which deteriorated in 2013 following a disagreement.

“It was further gathered that during the fallout, the suspect allegedly threatened to disrupt the complainant’s business operations,” the sources added.

The sources indicated that the suspect remained under police detention while the probe proceeded to ascertain the extent of his participation and any potential reasons behind his actions.

The police guaranteed the public that additional updates regarding the matter would be shared at the appropriate time, and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to revealing the details surrounding the blast.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
