Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Slay Farmer And 15-Year-Old Girl In Benue State

Two farmers were reportedly slain by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ikyungwa Tombo Ward, near Ayilamo hamlet in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

On Monday, June 6, around 5 p.m., the victims were said to be returning from their fields when the incident occurred.

Bem Uhembe Mathew, 34, and Doose Mungwa, 15, both from Tse-Ibor village in Tombo ward, have been identified as the victims.

The victims were reportedly returning to Ayilamo town after working on their farms because their village, Tombo, had allegedly been taken over by suspected herders.

They were then ambushed and slain on Monday evening, according to Chairman of the Local Government Area, Agber Terse, who confirmed the tragedy to Daily Trust.

Agber blamed militant herders for the duo’s deaths, which he said were caused by the ongoing invasion of Tombo ward, a farming area that had been targeted by gunmen suspected of being herders since 2016.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, June 7, the victims were laid to rest.
