Unemployed Man Bags 9 Months In Prison After Stealing Two Goats

Pius John, a 20-year-old unemployed man, has been given a nine-month prison term by a municipal court in Jos, Plateau State, after he was found guilty of stealing two goats.

The complainant, Mr. Dung Gyang, reported the case to the Anglo-Jos Police station on October 11 according to police prosecution counsel, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, who spoke in court.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant broke into the complainant’s home and stole two goats worth N40,000.

The prosecutor argued that the offence is punishable in accordance with sections 334 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code.

Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan, the two magistrates on the case’s panel, sentenced John to nine months in prison and a N10,000 fine.

The offender was also mandated to provide the complainant a N40,000 compensation.

According to the judges, the judgment would serve as a warning to others who would seek to engage in such criminal activities.
