24-year-old Indian Woman, Kshama Bindu Set To Marry Herself

Sologamy or autogamy is marriage by a person to themselves. Supporters of the practice argue that it affirms one’s own value and leads to a happier life. An alternative term is self-marriage, but this may also refer to a self-uniting marriage, which is a marriage without an officiant

Kshama Bindu, a 24-year-old Indian woman, is scheduled to marry herself in India’s first solo wedding, or solo game on Saturday, June 25.

A woman from Vadodara, Gujarat, will marry herself, and the ceremony will have everything from ‘pheras’ and wedding vows to a honeymoon, but there will be no groom or ‘baraat.’

“I had no desire to marry.” I did, however, want to be a bride. As a result, I made the decision to marry myself,” Kshama told the Times of India.

She added that she did some online research to see whether any other women in the country had married themselves, but she couldn’t locate any.

“Maybe I am the first to set an example of self-love in our country,” she said.

“Self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for oneself. It’s also an act of self-acceptance. People marry someone they love. I love myself and hence this wedding,” explained Kshama, who works for a private firm.

She believes that some people may consider self-marriage to be irrelevant. “But what I’m really trying to convey is that women matter,” she added, adding that her parents are supportive of her decision and have given her wedding their blessing.

Kshama has penned five vows for her wedding in Gotri, which will be solemnized at a temple. Not only that but there’s more.

Her post-wedding plans include a two-week honeymoon in Goa.
