50 Nigerians Arrested In Ghana Over Cybercrime; Human Trafficking

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has detained approximately 50 Nigerian nationals, including a property owner, during a raid at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of Accra for suspected involvement in cybercrime and human trafficking.

The raid, executed in the early hours of Thursday, July 24, 2025, was prompted by intelligence indicating that some foreign nationals were illegally residing in the area and may have been trafficked into the country and coerced into online fraud.

“This operation follows intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,” said Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs of the GIS in a statement.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with other national security agencies, led to the apprehension of numerous individuals and the landlord of the property suspected to have been used for the alleged activities.

Mr. Amoako-Atta stated that further investigations are underway, with the suspects being screened, and updates will be provided as the situation progresses.

The McCarthy Hills raid comes after recent arrests targeting cybercrime and trafficking networks operating within residential communities in Accra.

In April 2025, a joint operation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ghana Police Service, and other security agencies resulted in the arrest of 219 foreign nationals, including minors, during a raid at Oyarifa in the Ga East Municipality.

That operation exposed a large-scale cyber fraud and trafficking syndicate.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
