Babatunde Fashola, the former governor of Lagos State, and his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Morayo Afolabi- Brown.
As prominent figures in public life, they shared their inspiring journey of marriage, emphasizing the vital role of faith in their relationship. They discussed how their shared beliefs have been a guiding force, helping them navigate the demands of public service while maintaining a strong and loving partnership.

When asked why he married a Christian as a Muslim, Mr. Babatunde Fashola replied:
“I think I’m very fortunate. My maternal family were Christians, and I grew up with my mother who is Christian. So, every Sunday, as the sun shines, I’m in St. Jude’s Anglican Church, Ebute Metta. I know nothing about Islam. Marriage, at the end of the day, is about who both of you are.”
Turning to Mrs. Fashola, she addressed rumors about her husband’s fidelity during his tenure as Lagos State Governor:
“Not at all, never. But I heard a story from my sisters that my husband had another family in Magodo. I was like, really? My own husband? I said, okay, not to worry, because I know the relationship my husband and I share.
‘We talk about mostly everything because marriage is all about communication. Most times when I hear stories like that, I wait for the Holy Spirit to guide me.
Then I asked him, ‘I heard you have another family in Magodo.’ He was surprised and said he had only been to Magodo during his campaign, so no such thing.” She said.
Mrs. Fashola also revealed what really gets Mr. Fashola angry, despite his calm and composed public image:
“You know, when God gives you an assignment, you will lead in a calm manner. But that he doesn’t get angry is a lie.”
