Despite recent criticism of the team’s performance, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has declared that he is not under pressure to win.
To preserve his job, Peseiro will need to win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023.
Peseiro thinks playing for Nigeria is a great responsibility, but he is certain that his players will perform on the pitch.
“To play for Nigeria is not easy, 200 million football fans want to win and we need to answer with good results on the pitch,” the Portuguese told a press conference on Saturday

“I don’t speak about our last results, I speak about how we can improve our results. We create always and we need that balance.
“We will give our best in tomorrow’s game. I’m not under pressure and we will do the best on the pitch.”
When asked if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had paid his outstanding pay, the Portuguese strategist stated that money is not a problem for the team right now.
“Money and bonuses should be the last discussion, we need good results first. We all need money, but money is the last discussion,” he added.
“I don’t discuss my salary and bonuses with the media.”
