The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State.
He showed up at the EFCC offices in Abuja on Tuesday and was taken into custody. The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, revealed the former governor’s imprisonment.
Speaking to reporters, Oyewale claimed that the Commission’s head security officer had taken Bello into custody.
“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,” Oyewale said.
After months of turning down several invitations, Bello and his attorneys visited the EFCC headquarters Tuesday morning to address accusations of financial misappropriation made against him.
He and his attorneys visited the EFCC office. However, the group did not include his replacement, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who accompanied him to the EFCC office a few weeks ago.
