Eniola Ajao Explains Lawsuit Against Blogger Over Viral Funeral Video

Published on

Following the global success of a video taken during Odunlade Adekola’s father’s burial and subsequent internet controversy, actress Eniola Ajao has filed a lawsuit against a blogger.

The blogger, Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, was arrested and charged with defamation under Nigeria’s internet laws, the actress disclosed.

The issue was taken to court because, she stated, the film was manipulated in a way that was misleading and hurt her reputation.

After being detained in Ikoyi Prison for two weeks, the blogger finally apologized.

Following his apologies, Ajao said she decided to forgive him, but she cautioned others who disseminate harmful content online that they might be subject to legal repercussions, including jail time.

She wrote on Instagram: “I can confirm the arrest and prosecution of Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, a blogger for criminal defamation and cyberbullying under the Nigerian Cyber Crime Acts.

“He assassinated my character, he paid for it in full.

“Some people are saying two weeks is too small. I forgave him all because of his mother and wives… To err is human, to forgive is divine.

“If you think you can defame people online because it’s a free space, you will meet the course of the law… Your seven years imprisonment is loading.”
