Nahun Gwadi Eli, a superintendent of police, passed away in his hotel room in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
On October 23, 2023, after concerned officers broke into his hotel room, the officer’s body was discovered on the floor next to his bed.
Eli served as the Commander of A/O SWAT, Plateau State Command, until his passing.
His men, according to sources, started to worry when they kept ringing his phone number and got no answer.
After going to his hotel room and knocking multiple times, the police officers received no answer.
He was dead when they pried open the door of the hotel room.
“On 23rd of October, at about 5:30 pm, information was received from A/0 SWAT Plateau State Command that they have not seen nor heard from their commander, SP Nahum Gwadi Eli,” a police source said.
“He didn’t report to duty and his phone was ringing, but no response. They decided to visit his hotel room, along old Airport Road, and when they got there, they knocked at the door and there was no response. They called the management of the hotel and forced the door open. He was found lying on the ground beside the bed.
“The family was contacted and the scene of the crime was visited by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Anglo-Jos.
“A Police Medical doctor was called upon and photographs were taken. The body was removed to Plateau Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The corpse was deposited at the same hospital mortuary for autopsy. No foul play suspected yet,” the officer said.
Friends and family have been grieving for the fallen officer in the interim.
One Bamaiyi wrote: “SP Nahum Gwadi, my cousin’s brother, your sudden departure is very painful and more under mysterious circumstances as reported by your colleagues on 23/10/2023. “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” 1 Cor. 15:55. LORD we bow our hearts in worship,” he wrote.
