A judge named Osho Adebiyi from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, which was conducting proceedings in Abuja, has imposed a sentence of life in prison upon a 19-year-old educator working in a school, whose name is Abdullahi Abbass, due to his act of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old student within the Kwali Area Council region of the FCT.
In revealing this information to journalists, Vincent Adekoye, who serves as the National Press Officer for the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), through a press release that came out on Saturday, November 1, indicated that the organization viewed the court’s decision as yet another substantial achievement in the ongoing battle against s£xual violence throughout Nigeria.
Abbass had been employed at one of the leading educational institutions situated in Kwali, and he functioned as the classroom instructor for the young boy who suffered the abuse.
‘’On the 19th March 2025, after school hours, he sent another pupil to call the victim from their home. He thereafter took the victim down the street where he lived and raped the male victim through the anus. The report indicated that despite the threat from the convict, the victim reported the incident to his mother, which led to his arrest by the Police and the subsequent referral of the case to NAPTIP.”
The press release further noted that such a violation carries penalties as outlined in Section 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act from the year 2015.
The defendant faced court on charges consisting of two counts, which encompassed r@pe and sexu@l abuse, and he was found guilty not long afterward on the date of 29th October, 2025.
In response to this occurrence, Binta Bello, who holds the position of Director General at NAPTIP, expressed praise toward the judicial system for delivering this pivotal ruling, along with appreciation for the assistance provided by every collaborator involved in pursuing the prosecution and ultimately securing the guilty verdict against the perpetrator.
“This is a landmark judgment that carries the commensurable punishment for the offender. This will serve as a deterrent, and his name shall feature prominently in our Sex Offenders Register.
I wish to say that the speedy investigation and arraignment of the Convict is a testimony to our renewed commitment and determination to tackle the incidence of domestic violence, rape, and other forms of s£xual abuse in the Country.
I thank the Judiciary for the judgment and the Nigeria Police for the inter-Agency collaboration on this case.”
