FCTA to Boost Health Funding, Establish Infectious Disease Hospital

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to increase health funding and establish an infectious disease hospital to improve healthcare services in the territory. This move aims to address the growing healthcare needs of the FCT’s population and enhance the territory’s preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks.

Key Initiatives:

  • Infectious Disease Hospital: The FCTA plans to establish a dedicated infectious disease hospital to provide specialized care and treatment for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Increased Health Funding: The administration has committed to increasing health funding to support the development of healthcare infrastructure, recruit more healthcare professionals, and improve the quality of healthcare services.
  • Revitalization of FCT Molecular Laboratory: The FCTA also plans to revitalize the FCT molecular laboratory to enhance diagnostic capabilities and respond to infectious disease outbreaks effectively.
  • 15% Budgetary Allocation to Health: The administration aims to advocate for a minimum of 15% budgetary allocation to health, aligning with international standards.

Other Healthcare Developments in FCT:

  • Recruitment of Health Workers: The FCTA has announced plans to recruit 900 health workers and 342 additional healthcare professionals to enhance the quality of healthcare services.
  • Upgrading of Healthcare Facilities: The administration plans to upgrade all general hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres in the territory, including the rehabilitation of 14 general hospitals in 2025.
  • Establishment of High-Tech VIP Wards: The FCTA has unveiled plans to establish high-tech VIP wards in general hospitals, starting with the Maitama District Hospital.
